Summary:

A Roman gold mine located in Pumsaint, Wales operating from the first through the third century. The nearby fort (2ha) likely oversaw the mining operation and suggest imperial control of the mines. However civilian contractors likely worked the mines later after establishment. A large hydraulic system was set up with multiple tanks and 5 aqueducts one over 11km in length for exploiting the open cast pits. Underground mining also took place to considerable depths and pieces of a water wheel used to drain the mines were found in the 1930’s. Bath house ans workshops found nearby mines.
